WHAT IS TEDX YOUTH?
"TEDxYouth events are fun, imaginative, and smart TEDx events designed for, and often organized by, young people. They bring ideas worth spreading to all ages." - TED
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxSchuleSchlossSalem, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxSchuleSchlossSalem event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

Being queer: rights, violence and Pride
"What's left in the vein of LGBTQ+ rights after the right to existence and the right to marry? What's the 'point' in Pride if queer people 'have all their rights', and is the idea of queer people 'having all their rights' true? Is this still something we even need to talk about, when it's easier just say it got solved?"
GUEST SPEAKERS 2020:
Why mathematics is underrated
22 years old and from Germany. I spent 3 years in Salem and completed my IB there in 2014. Throughout school and university I have lived in UK, France, Italy, Peru and the US. Currently live in Berlin and study mathematics. Besides my interest in mathematics, I am an avid traveler, speak several languages and am passionate about music, running and good discussions. I will talk about why there is so much more to mathematics than you think, why my decision to give studying mathematics a try was one of the best of my life choices. It opened many doors for me and unexpected paths await for me in the future.
DAVID (DEHUA) ZHU
Scientific thinking leads to doing the right thing
Based at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), David Zhu works at CERN on the CMS experiment. His current work involves the search for heavy neutral leptons possibly produced during proton collisions in the Large Hadron Collider. The discovery of such provides clues to the origin of dark matter in the universe. During the years of leading a non-profit organization, David Zhu has explored the similarities of scientific discoveries and entrepreneurship. He and his team created the first virtual job fair in Switzerland and ETH’s largest hackathon while running a digital job searching platform. His TEDx Talk illustrates a core value in modern science and how it helps us doing things we will not regret.
